REMEMBER: GIA CARANGI !

As we enter Fashion Week, world round...all we see is the glitz and glamour of a life so surreal...
The model life...
Don't get get me wrong, I love everything about the crazy world of fashion, vanity, and fairy tale dreams...but...what lies beyond the lens, of altered ego's..skeletal frames, laced with champagne kisses..what about life...and the fine lined catwalk of "death"...

 I stumbled across a model's story...
her name...

GIA CARANGI
(January 29, 1960 – November 18, 1986)

Gia's story tells of her accidental fall into the modelling world, taking it by storm...and eventually becoming a casualty in a world filled with..." fake"...yes the product is real...they wear it, they sell it...but inevitably...your a coat hanger for designer clothes...yes money is to be made...no doubt, but if your young girl, naive to the ills of the world...and your away from home...your family "non-existent" while you start working at age 15...what more to do than to indulge in a ratchet lifestyle, behind the scenes...where expensive champagne flows and the underlying aroma of your next fix...is but a sniff away...

Gia Carangi was considered, one of the world's first "supermodels".
True to her supermodel titel, Gia graced the covers of  British Vogue, Vogue Italia, American Vogue,Vogue Paris as well as Cosmopolitan.

Her rise to the top was short lived due to her herion addiction, her career then rapidly declined, due to her drug abuse...sadly Gia contracted HIV, which abruptly claimed her life at age 26.

Gia's death was not highly published, in actual fact a few people in the her line of work knew of it.
"In the modelling world unfortunately your just a number... " your the in thing now and tomorrow you unheard of".

Gia Carangi at the time could easily have been the first celebrity model to have had died of AIDS.

Her story was told in the biography movie called GIA,starring Angelina Jolie...

A personal Interview with Gia Carangi

Angelina Jolie talks about Gia...

"...heaven on earth
back again
into
under
far in between
through it
in it
and above..."

From the Journal of Gia Carangi
1960-1986

"What I'm trying to say is...let's stay true to fact that the world of modelling is not easy, truth is...not everyone makes it...and those that do,sacrifice themselves in order to stay relevant...to stay no.1"

"The next time...you see a model, look beyond the glamour...admire them for thriving in a world so artificial...so vain...so so surreal...it's more than just the money, the fame...young girls fall victum to catwalk tainted with the allure the "dream" sells...".

KATE MOSS : TALKS

"An extract from Kate Moss's interview with Vanity Fair, sheds some light on her experiences as a model".

“I had never even taken heroin -- it was nothing to do with me at all. I think Corinne [Day] -- she wasn’t on heroin but always loved that Lou Reed song, that whole glamorizing the squat, white-and-black and sparse and thin, and girls with dark eyes. She loved that look. I was thin, but that’s because I was doing shows, working really hard. At that time, I was staying at a B and B in Milan, and you’d get home from work and there was no food. You’d get to work in the morning, there was no food. Nobody took you out for lunch when I started. Carla Bruni took me out for lunch once. She was really nice. Otherwise, you don’t get fed. But I was never anorexic. They knew it wasn’t true -- otherwise I wouldn’t be able to work."

BRAVE...WOMEN...FEARLESS...WOMEN, WE SALUTE YOU!

"I rarely do writes ups, where I honour women individually (I believe all women the world round are hero's in there own way, and you don't have to be a celebrity to know that your worth weighs more than gold)...

"Today I have to take time out to make an exception to the rule".

"I recently came across a story of a 15 year old girl named Malala Yousafzai...Malala is a Pakistani Educational Rights Campaigner, recently shot by the Taliban, this is her story...I want the world to know".

Malala Yousafzai

Malala is a 15 year-old student,and Education Activist from a Town called Mingora, she is known for her education and Women's Right's Activism in the notorious "Swat Valley", where the Taliban had banned women from going to school...

At the age of 11/12 Malala wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC where she tells about her life under Taliban Rule, she also depicts their attempts to take control of the "Swat Valley", and her views on promoting education for girls.

Malala's story gained alot of media attention, the New York Times later filmed a documentary depicting her life, she also became more prevelant in local and world news, doing interviews in print and television, "this young girl was not afraid to SPEAK OUT and expose the plight her people went through and is still going through".

Malala's activism and prevelance in the community later led her to take up a position as chairperson for the District Child Assembly Swat.
Malala has since been nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize by Desmond Tutu.

A number of individuals including the Canadian Prime Minister is supporting a petition to nominate Malala for the Nobel Peace Prize.

9 October 2012

Returning home from school via school bus, Malala was shot in the head and neck in an assassination attempt by Taliban gunmen.
Days after the attack Malala remained unconcious and in a critical state, her condition later improved and she was then sent to a hospital in the United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation.

12 October 2012

A group of 50 Islamic Clerics in Pakistan issued a Fatwa against those who tried to kill Malala, but the Taliban reiterated it's intent to kill Malala and her father.

A petition called "I am Malala" was then drawn by Former British Prime Minister and current U.N. Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown. The petition demanded that all children worldwide be in school by 2015, the petition was then to be handed by Brown to Pakistan's President in November 2012.

In honouring Malala, U.N.Secretary-General Banki-Moon declared November 10, Malala Day.

Malala leaves the hospital in the United Kingdom, Birmingham

"After following this young girl's story, I realised how ones voice and presence can become a weapon against the unjust...Malala's bravery high lighted the plight for all children to have the right to an education.

"We might live in different worlds as a society, but somewhere we are all linked...and we all can feel the repercussions of war.
"Malala could have easily been been Me or You...".

We all have the ability to bring about change...

CHANGE:

"In 2013 let's strive to make a difference...to change or highlight the unjust...".

"Growing up as a South African, we have own history of war, a racial war...".
"The war is long gone but the scars of war is still so prevalent,it's raw...".
"Though times have changed and we fight a different war...we fight a war of equality in our lands wealth, equal employment opportunities, the right to proper sanitation, housing etc etc...."

HERE'S TO US BEING BRAVE, AND FEARLESS IN 2013!!

CHANGE IS CONSTANT...and it's crazy Rebellious!!

I haven't been blogging much, got alot going on right now (big decisions to make)...I miss blogging though, got so much planned for the blog,my faithful rebelle readers (heart u guys)!!
What would you do...if you had the offer to ultimately change your life for the better, which involves relocating to another country...!! I am totally in limbo...apart of me wants...another...wants to stay in my country of birth...and just live...but the offer has come it's on the table and I have to decide!
Would it be a stupidly rebellious move...to slap the future in the face because as humans we hate change...or would it be uber rebelle...to say fcuk it all ...and move, to bigger and better things..
What about family? My doberman Ku-jo? My parents left behind, bro left behind, "friends" left behind...what about??
I wish I could see into the future...so it makes weighing my options easier...but I can't...so do I risk it??? The comfortability of home for the unknown!!! What do I do...
